Geared for maximum production in the toughest conditions, the 988H produces 475 net horsepower and carries an operating load of 25,000 pounds. This highly productive loader is suited for quarry applications, large earthmoving jobs, bulk materials handling and small mining operations. And now with the Fuel Management System the loader delivers fuel savings up to 15 percent in truck loading – and even more in load and carry operations. The system lowers engine speed during all but the digging portion of each cycle to gain the fuel savings.
Three Operating Modes
For maximum flexibility the system offers three different operating modes – full power, balanced, and max fuel savings. The system allows the operator to quickly adjust to changing production demands by moving a single, cab-mounted switch.
The full power mode maintains the proven leading performance of the 988H. The balanced mode delivers 10 to 15 percent fuel savings during truck loading applications while keeping production within a few percent of maximum. Max fuel savings mode lowers productivity further but offers greater fuel savings.
The Fuel Management System is available on new CAT 988H wheel loaders and can be retrofitted to 988H loaders already in the field.
