The new CAT CX31 heavy-duty automatic transmission has the power, performance and durability designed specifically for demanding, on-highway applications such as fuel haulers, delivery trucks, ready-mix trucks, bulk material transporters and motor coaches.
Field-Tested
The CX31 Transmission completed extensive field tests of more than 100,000 hours and 1.8 million miles of successful operation in a wide range of applications. The testing showed faster acceleration and better fuel economy over other available transmissions in similar applications. Transmission ratings are based on both input and horsepower. Depending on the application, the CX31 offers up to 600 hp and 1850 lb-ft torque.

Six forward speeds, one reverse
Two standard side PTO locations, and an optional high-output rear PTO, for full-time uninterrupted driveline power
Lock-up torque converter couples the engine directly to the driveline for better fuel economy
Optional remote-mounted oil filter for quick replacement
Exterior-mounted Electronic Clutch Pressure Control (ECPC) valves for easy access
Adaptive shift control logic utilizes information from the driver’s operating style to balance performance and economy
Optional integral hydraulic retarder can be used as a quieter secondary braking alternative
Industry-standard J1939 communication facilitates information transfer between the transmission and engine, making diagnostic codes available for efficient servicing of both components
In addition to the heavy duty CX31, the Caterpillar transmission line-up also includes the medium duty CX28 and the super heavy duty CX35. The CX28 offers up to 425 hp and 1350 lb-ft torque while the CX35 super heavy duty transmission boasts up to 625 hp and 2150 lb-ft torque.
