CAT Solves Emissions Problem with Innovative Solution

A major challenge to meeting the tougher 2007 EPA emissions standards is to significantly reduce the levels of particulate matter diesel engines discharge into the air.

Engineers from Caterpillar have found a safe and effective two-part solution which results in cleaner air and brings more value to CAT customers. The CAT Diesel Particulate Filter is designed to reduce emissions of particulate matter, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons. For 2007, CAT engines with ACERT™ Technology will be equipped with a CAT-manufactured Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).

CAT Regeneration System

The CAT Regeneration System (CRS) is a safe, controlled system that uses a close combustion chamber similar to gas-burning home furnaces to oxidize soot, which optimizes fuel economy. On CAT engines with ACERT Technology, the CRS activates when DPF soot buildup is detected. The CRS uses only the precise amount of fuel needed to oxidize the soot and occurs only when needed. Plus, no driver action is required. On-highway engines with ACERT Technology and the DPF/CRS system will get operators down the road with the power and reliability they’ve come to expect from CAT while saving on fuel economy and improving air quality.
